German Literature in German or in English.  Because everybody’s requirements and language knowledge tend to differ, this course takes the form of individual sessions, once a week or a fortnight,  of reading and discussion of works of German literature (including poetry and plays), roughly from Goethe (b.1749) to Brecht (d.1956).  Students with little or no German are welcome, as there are often good English translations of the German classics.  The choice of texts to be read is made with each student.   Individual sessions are held at my house or in the student’s house, by arrangement.
