Yoga – Chair Yoga & Meditation

The group is led by qualified yoga teacher Mary Callaghan. It is open to all who would like to experience this beautiful discipline as a path of self discovery using movement, breathing and meditation practices. We approach the class gently and progressively so every one can take part and benefit, regardless of ability, disability and experience. All our practices are done seated in a chair. Doors open at 12.00 for 12.15 prompt start. Finish at 13.15.

Technology and Changing Times

In this group we take a lively and news-focused look at the developing technologies of our time. Each week we look at recent reports on a technology topic from different angles, and then its likely impacts and implications – for our own lives, and for society generally. Where do we expect it to lead, and how do we feel about it?

Members of the groups are all interested in emerging technology, but you don’t need to have a technical background. Just be prepared to find out about what’s new and express your opinion!

Please note: this is NOT an IT support group.

Film in the Cinema

We meet on the 3rd Friday of each month, exclusively on zoom and at present are a small group of 6-9 people. Our discussions last approximately an hour, sometimes a little longer.

We try to select one or two suitable films to discuss each month, one of which preferably should be on a streaming platform or terrestrial TV as not all our members are currently going to the cinema.

Some of us have been in the group a long time but new members with a passion for film are always welcome. Please contact Marta Brown as shown above if you would like more information, or would like to join.

History – A Sideways Look

This group looks ‘Sideways’ at history. We choose a particular period and examine what was happening at that period worldwide. None of us are experts; we share a curiosity about the past throughout the world. All group members participate in discussions and share the responsibility of researching/presenting topics of their choice.

From September 2024 we will be looking at the period 1750-1800. This was the age of revolutions – political in America and France, industrial in Britain. The various states in India crumbled before the British advance, the Russians under Catherine the Great reached the Black Sea and the Chinese empire flourished, largely free from European interference. It was the age of Mozart operas, the discovery of electricity and the Jewish enlightenment. We will be looking at world-shaking trends or quirky details – anything that catches our fancy in the period.

Michael Johns leads the group. We present papers on email and meet for discussion on zoom, to enable members with travel or mobility problems to participate. From time to time we meet in person for a social lunch.

If you are interested in joining the group, please contact Michael Johns
