A group for women to talk about historical and contemporary women who members find interesting, and would like to know more about. Individual members will suggest women to discuss and the group will find out about them and bring their thoughts and opinions to share. We will talk about women who have achieved something significant, or have been active in society, or have been famous, or have done something we find of interest. Some of the discussions will focus on topics/issues that particularly affect women in our society and the impact this can have on their lives.
Improve your core strength and flexibility in a friendly and supportive environment, with the help of our professional teacher. Designed to introduce you to the exercises which you can either do very gently or push a little harder, if you are able. There is a charge for the term to cover the teaching. The Wine Appreciation Group meets on the second Thursday of the month at 10.30, normally finishing by 12 noon. Our regular venue is the Victoria Park Bowls & Croquet Club where there is plenty of parking.
Each meeting is themed on an area or style of wine. Each meeting begins with a short talk followed by a tasting of seven wines. Members may taste and spit, but mostly they choose to taste and swallow! The meeting is very social with chat throughout the tasting on a large range of subjects.
We like everyone to use the same type of glass, so new members will be expected to buy one on joining, from Laurence. We split the cost of the wine between us with the money being collected during the meeting. This is usually around £7. We always welcome new members. Please contact Laurence Hanison as shown above.
A comfortable walk to explore the historical interest of a particular area, which may include viewing buildings, churches, ruins and open spaces.
We are a group of people who share their enjoyment of art. At each meeting we have a couple of presentations on art works from any time or place, which are then discussed by the group. No knowledge of art is necessary, just interest and the pleasure of discovery.
