NLU3A, something for everyone

About NLU3A

NLU3A is the North London U3A with meetings in Finchley, Highgate, Muswell Hill and nearby areas. It is one of over 1000 U3As across the country. Each U3A is about people coming together to continue their educational, social and creative interests in a friendly and informal environment.

We can help you by introducing you to new skills and subjects or even persuade you to share your own specialist skills and, very importantly, the opportunity to meet new people through our interest groups, events and monthly meetings.

NLU3A AGM 2021

The NLU3A AGM was held on Monday 9 November at St Paul’s Church Finchley. 47 members attended. As well as electing the committee for the coming year, members agreed the subscription for 2022 would be £25 a year and approved the new constitution for NLU3A. This updated our constitution in line with the latest guidance from the Charity Commission and the Third Age Trust. In particular, the updated constitution makes it possible to hold general meetings online if necessary, and sets new limits on the tenure of future committee members and officers. See the minutes here.

Groups looking for new members

Various NLU3A groups are actively looking for new members. Some operate face to face and some on Zoom. If you are interested, please contact the group co-ordinator concerned for more information. January Monthly Meeting

January Monthly Meeting

Owing to the resurgence of Covid-19 due to the Omicron variant, we are reverting to holding Monthly Meetings online on Zoom for the time being.

The next meeting will be held on Zoom at 10.30am on Monday 10 January. The topic will be ‘The Wallace Collection’; please click here for more details. Subsequent meetings may also be held remotely; confirmation will be provided in each newsletter.

Volunteers wanted

We are looking for a small team of members to take over responsibility for researching and booking speakers for our Monthly Meetings, after John Hadju steps down in 2022. If you have experience in this area and are interested in helping out, or would like to find out more, please contact Edmond Cohen at chair@nlu3a.org.uk.

Our constitution also requires that we regularly refresh our committee with new blood. If you think you could help share the load of running this big and active organisation, please do contact Edmond at chair@nlu3a.org.uk. He will be happy to discuss the options and offer a chance to observe a committee meeting.

Subscription renewals

Members should have received a letter about renewing your subscription for 2022.  The price is being held at £25.00.  Thank you to the many members who have already renewed. Please do renew as soon as possible if you wish to continue to attend NLU3A events, including Interest Group meetings. If you cannot trace your renewal letter, please contact Ruth Silver, membership secretary at membership@nlu3a.org.uk.

Please also remember to wear membership badges to meetings, as this will help us all to get to know each others’ names without embarrassment.
